Yacht handover · Marina Lazure, Herceg Novi

boarding from 17:00 Herceg Novi Grocery shopping

Arrival day. Board Bavaria 51 Vera from 17:00 at Marina Lazure. Yacht orientation, captain's briefing, cabin assignment.

Grocery shopping for the entire voyage — supermarkets and a market in Herceg Novi are within walking distance from the marina. Dinner ashore: rest after the flight.

Herceg Novi — "the city of flowers and steps": medieval fortresses, subtropical vegetation and a view over the entire Bay of Kotor. A walk along the pedestrian Yaz Steps is a great way to stretch your legs after the journey.

Marina Lazure → Žanić → Mirište → Blue Cave → Dobra Luka (Luštica Peninsula)

~15 miles Luštica bays Snorkeling

First day under sail. Departure from Marina Lazure and passage along the Luštica peninsula — an unspoiled corner of Montenegro with olive groves and secluded bays.

The gems of the peninsula — all ideal for swimming and snorkeling:

  • Žanić — wild beach with crystal-clear water, fine pebbles, easy entry to the sea
  • Mirište — secluded cove with white pebbles shaded by pines, calm water
  • Blue Cave — a picturesque grotto in the cliffs, bluish glow of the water inside, great for snorkeling
  • Dobra Luka — spacious bay with excellent underwater visibility, rich sea floor

No crowds here — just the sea, mountains and silence.

Overnight options:

  • Anchor in one of the Luštica bays (Dobra Luka or Mirište)
  • Luštica Bay marina — a modern marina-village, similar in spirit to Porto Montenegro
  • Passage to Bigova — a fishing village deep in Trašta Bay with an excellent fish restaurant Grispolis (guest buoys, tender to yacht — advance booking in high season)

Luštica → Sveti Stefan → Budva

~20 miles Sveti Stefan Budva

Passage south along the Budva Riviera. Along the way — picturesque shores with small beaches, coves and cliffs.

Sveti Stefan — a hotel island connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway. One of the most recognisable symbols of Montenegro. You can anchor off the island and admire the view from the water — exposed location, best not to linger in a swell.

Budva — the country's main resort with a medieval Old Town on a small peninsula surrounded by Venetian walls. Dinner and a walk through the old town.

Budva → Stradioti Island (Bay of Tivat) → Porto Montenegro

~30 miles Stradioti Island Porto Montenegro

Return north to the Bay of Tivat. The best anchorage in the bay is off Stradioti island. Opposite is the Vino Santo restaurant with its own yacht jetty — an ideal lunch spot or overnight anchorage.

Porto Montenegro — the most luxurious marina on the Adriatic, built on the site of Yugoslavia's former naval base. Restaurants, boutiques, superyachts and a submarine museum right in the marina. The option for those wanting shore comforts.

Porto Montenegro → Verige Strait → Islands off Perast → Kotor (UNESCO)

~15 miles Verige Strait Perast · Kotor UNESCO

The Verige Strait — the narrowest point of the Bay of Kotor, 340 metres. Note: ferries between Kamenari and Lepetane pass here regularly.

Off Perast — two islands: Our Lady of the Rocks (a man-made island with a 17th-century church, built by sailors since 1452) and St. George (a 12th-century monastery).

Kotor — a medieval city under UNESCO protection. The fortification walls, 4.5 km long, rise 260 m. Maritime Museum, Cathedral of St. Tryphon (12th c.), a labyrinth of cobblestone streets. Dinner and overnight at the city marina right beside the walls.

Kotor · Exploring the city

UNESCO Kotor Old Town Fortress of St. John

A full day in Kotor. Climb the Fortress of St. John (260 m) — 1,355 steps along medieval walls and a panorama over the entire bay. Best to go in the morning before the heat.

The Maritime Museum in a baroque 18th-century palace — a must for any sailor. The seafaring history of the Bay of Kotor, charts, navigational instruments, ship models. Piazza delle Armi, the clock tower, Cathedral of St. Tryphon.

In the evening — a farewell dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants inside the fortress walls.

Kotor → Portonovi Marina (Kumbor) → Marina Lazure · Herceg Novi

~15 miles refuelling at Portonovi Herceg Novi

Before leaving Kotor — morning entertainment. The cable car takes you up Mount Lovćen — a bird's-eye panorama over the entire Bay of Kotor, one of the best in Montenegro. Also there — the Alpine Coaster: a mountain bobsled track, a descent on guided sleds down the slope. A great final highlight for the crew.

Final passage across the bay back to Herceg Novi. A brief stop at Portonovi Marina near Kumbor to refuel — one of the finest marinas on the coast. Along the way we'll pass the abandoned submarine base — one of former Yugoslavia's secret facilities.

Arrival at Marina Lazure in the afternoon. Final dinner in Herceg Novi. Return Bavaria 51 Vera on October 3 by 09:00.
