🛂 Entry requirements for Russian citizens

Russian nationals can enter Thailand visa-free. As of May 19, 2026 the visa-exempt stay was cut from 60 to 30 days — plenty for our one-week trip. Rules change periodically, so it's worth double-checking closer to departure.

Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) — mandatory for all foreign visitors since 2025, filed online no earlier than 3 days before arrival on the official site tdac.immigration.go.th. It's free and the interface is available in Russian.

Required on arrival: a passport valid for at least 6 months, a return flight ticket. Health insurance isn't legally required but is strongly recommended, listing "yachting" as the activity.

🚌 Transport and transfers

Taxi/transfer — the Grab app (Southeast Asia's Uber equivalent) works across Phuket. The transfer from the airport to Yacht Haven Marina takes about 30–40 minutes.

Between anchorages — the route has plenty of local long-tail boats and tour operators, handy for short side trips where bringing the catamaran in isn't practical.

📶 Connectivity

An eSIM (AIS, dtac or True) is recommended — it can be activated before departure. Make sure your phone supports eSIM before buying.

Alternative — a physical SIM card at Phuket airport, AIS/dtac/True counters right in the arrivals hall, tourist plans for 7–15 days with unlimited data.

Catamaran handover · Yacht Haven MarinaKoh PanyeePhang Nga Bay

27 nm · 4h 35m Canoe canyoning James Bond Island

Morning: crew meet-up, skipper briefing, catamaran handover, provisioning in Phuket.

After lunch — sail out into Phang Nga Bay, one of Thailand's most recognisable sights: emerald water, sheer limestone karsts, scattered islets and drifting long-tail boats. The bay has featured in Bond films and Star Wars, and stretches across roughly 400 km². Worth taking a canoe into the tight passages and caves between the cliffs, some marked with ancient rock paintings.

A stop at the floating village of Koh Panyee: stilt houses, market stalls and a golden mosque built out over the water. Nearby stands the bay's icon — "James Bond Island" (Koh Tapu).

Overnight — somewhere in Phang Nga Bay, for example near the island of Khao Phing Kan, right beside the famous rock spire of Koh Tapu ("James Bond Island"): since 1998 boats have been banned from approaching the rock itself, but you can admire it and grab a photo from the neighbouring beach.

Khao Phing Kan → Koh Hong

14 nm · 2h 20m Snorkelling SUP

A short hop to Koh Hong — a tiny island within Thanbok Khoranee National Park, just a day's sail from Krabi. The entrance to the Hong lagoon is a narrow gap between rocks, opening into a near-enclosed cove of emerald water and white sand, ringed by velvety limestone walls.

Snorkelling here is a riot of colour, with fish schooling over coral patches close to shore. On land, look for white-faced gibbons and monitor lizards. A SUP board is the best way to explore the narrow passages between the cliffs and take in the scale of the karst walls.

Koh Hong → Railay Beach, Krabi

11 nm · 1h 55m Rock climbing Beach

Railay is a peninsula near Krabi reachable only by boat, hemmed in on all sides by sheer limestone cliffs. Powder-white sand, swaying palms and turquoise water make it one of the most photogenic spots on the Andaman coast.

The surroundings are riddled with caves and coves, often home to macaques and langurs. Railay is also one of the world's rock-climbing meccas — routes on the limestone walls right above the beach suit beginners and experienced climbers alike. For a quieter pace, resort hotels nearby offer the full range of beach comforts.

Railay Beach → Krabi · Krabi Marina

6 nm · 1h 05m Krabi Town Hat Noppharat Thara NP

A short hop to Krabi Town — the provincial capital on the banks of the Krabi River. The town sits within Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park and works more as a transport and tourism hub than a resort: markets, a riverside promenade, temples, and easy access to the neighbouring islands.

A good day to go ashore, wander the town, try Thai street food and, if you like, visit the nearby mangroves or the cave temple of Wat Tham Sua.

Krabi → Koh Phi Phi

19 nm · 3h 15m Snorkelling "The Beach"

The Phi Phi archipelago, made famous by the Leonardo DiCaprio film "The Beach," is one of those bucket-list stops. Cream-coloured sand and water in every shade of blue make the view from the catamaran deck feel almost unreal.

Parts of Phi Phi Don are densely built up and crowded, but Phi Phi Leh — with its carved limestone cliffs and crystal-clear water in Maya Bay — offers some of the best snorkelling in the region, if you can time it between the tour-boat crowds.

Koh Phi Phi → Koh Racha

28 nm · 4h 45m Diving · Snorkelling White sand

The longest passage of the trip, to Koh Racha (Raya Island), 20 km south of Phuket. The island is one of Thailand's best spots for diving and snorkelling: brilliant white sand, coral seabeds and five scenic bays to choose from.

Dive sites here suit beginners and experienced divers alike. Patok Beach is the main shore with resort facilities, while Siam Bay is quieter and more secluded. Beyond the water — trekking across the island and fishing.

Koh Racha → Phuket · Yacht Haven Marina

16 nm · 2h 40m Phuket Refuelling · last night aboard

Back to Phuket, Thailand's largest island, with more than 40 km of sandy beaches to suit any taste — from the traditional feel of Kamala Beach to the resort buzz of Patong.

On arrival at the marina — refuelling and mooring. In the evening, a farewell dinner, with the option of a stroll through Phuket Old Town's colonial architecture or a night out on Bangla Road. Catamaran handover on the morning of October 16.

Tips and notes

October weather

The Andaman Sea is still within the southwest monsoon season: short but heavy downpours are possible, more often in the afternoon, along with gusty wind. Sunshine and heat return between showers. We check Windy every morning and adjust the order of stops if needed.

Anchorages

Most anchorages on the route are free. Popular beaches (Railay, Phi Phi) get crowded with day-tour boats in high season — we aim to arrive in the evening once the tours have cleared out.

🎫

National parks

Phang Nga, Koh Hong (Thanbok Khoranee) and Phi Phi (Hat Noppharat Thara) are national park territory with an entrance fee for foreign visitors (usually 200–400 THB per person), paid on-site to rangers.

🤿

Gear

Masks, snorkels and fins are usually included with the chartered catamaran — to be confirmed once the vessel is booked. Best snorkelling spots on the route: Koh Hong, Phi Phi Leh, Koh Racha.

🧴

Jellyfish and sun

Toward the end of the rainy season, isolated jellyfish blooms can appear along the Andaman coast after storms — worth checking locally before swimming. The sun is intense even on cloudy days, so sunscreen every day is a must.

📄

File the TDAC early

The digital arrival card can only be filed within a 3-day window before departure — set a reminder so it isn't forgotten right before the trip.
